قالت مسؤولة الطوارئ في منظمة الصحة العالمية بأوروبا كاثرين سمولوود، إنه كلما ازداد انتشار متحور أوميكرون فإن نسبة العدوى والتكاثر تزداد بدورها؛ ما يزيد من احتمالات ظهور متحور جديد.
وحذرت من أن المتحور الجديد قد يكون أكثر خطورة مقارنة بأوميكرون وهو ما يزيد من عدد الوفيات بهذا الفيروس القاتل.
وفيما ينتشر المتحور الجديد من دون رادع في أنحاء العالم، يبدو أقل خطورة مما كان يخشى في البدء، ما أثار الآمال في إمكانية دحر الوباء والعودة إلى حياة طبيعية.
